PM Modi’s Ravidass Jayanti Visit To Dera Sachkhand Ballan Highlights Community Outreach And Infrastructure Push

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Dera Sachkhand Ballan near Jalandhar on the occasion of Ravidass Jayanti, marking a major outreach to the influential Ravidassia community in Punjab’s Doaba region.

The visit will underline the government’s engagement with the community ahead of key political developments in the state.

According to the official schedule, the Prime Minister will spend about 45 minutes at the dera, where he will meet Sant Niranjan Das, the spiritual head of the Ravidassia community and chief of Dera Ballan.

People widely respect Sant Niranjan Das, who recently received the Padma Shri, for promoting the teachings of Sant Guru Ravidass.

Renaming of Adampur Airport and Infrastructure Initiatives

PM Modi will arrive at Adampur airport around 3:30 PM and then proceed to the dera by helicopter. He last visited the Adampur air base in May 2025, shortly after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following tensions linked to Operation Sindoor, during which Pakistan targeted Adampur among other installations.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will formally rename Adampur’s civil airport after Guru Ravidass Maharaj. The move seeks to honour the sentiments of the Ravidassia community, which has a strong presence in the Doaba belt between the Beas and the Satluj rivers.

The region holds 23 of Punjab’s 117 Assembly seats, and Dera Sachkhand Ballan is believed to influence the outcomes in at least 19 constituencies.

In addition, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate the new terminal building at Halwara airport in Ludhiana. The upgraded facility will serve the surrounding industrial and agricultural areas more efficiently. With a longer runway capable of handling A320-type aircraft, the new civil enclave at Halwara aims to significantly improve air connectivity in central Punjab.

The visit coincides with the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidass, a revered saint and social reformer whose message of equality, compassion and human dignity continues to resonate across the country.

The political context of the visit is also noteworthy. Recently, a delegation led by former National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairman Vijay Sampla met the Prime Minister to seek national-level celebrations for the 650th Prakash Purab of Guru Ravidass in 2027.

The Punjab government has announced the establishment of the Sri Guru Ravidass Bani Adhayyan Centre near Dera Sachkhand Ballan, reflecting growing political focus on the community ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
