Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Vantara, an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district, highlighting his commitment to wildlife conservation.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant were also present at the event.
During his visit, PM Modi toured the center’s facilities and engaged with rehabilitated animals.
He also visited the wildlife hospital, which features advanced medical equipment such as MRI, CT scans, and intensive care units.
A video shared on his official YouTube channel showed PM Modi feeding and playing with different animals, including lion cubs, a rare clouded leopard cub, and a caracal cub.
PM Modi fed a White Lion cub born at the center to a rescued mother receiving care at Vantara.
Caracals, once abundant in India, are now a rare sight. At Vantara, they are bred in captivity as part of a conservation program and later released into the wild.
PM Modi also visited the MRI room, where he saw an Asiatic lion undergoing a scan.
Additionally, he observed a life-saving operation on a leopard injured in a road accident.
The centre focuses on conservation programs for species such as the Asiatic lion, snow leopard, and one-horned rhinoceros.
PM Modi met several rescued animals, including a golden tiger, snow tigers, and chimpanzees, previously kept as pets.
He also interacted with an okapi, orangutans, a hippopotamus, crocodiles, zebras, a giraffe, and a rhino calf orphaned after its mother died.
Other rare species he encountered included a two-headed snake, a two-headed turtle, tapirs, giant otters, and elephants undergoing hydrotherapy.
The centre is home to the world’s largest elephant hospital.
PM Modi released rescued parrots back into the wild and engaged with veterinarians and caretakers at the facility.
Earlier, on World Wildlife Day, he went on a lion safari at Gir National Park and urged collective efforts to protect biodiversity, emphasizing the importance of preserving nature for future generations.
“Today, on World Wildlife Day, let’s reiterate our commitment to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of our planet. Every species plays a vital role–let’s safeguard their future for generations to come! We also take pride in India’s contributions towards preserving and protecting wildlife,” the Prime Minister stated.
