During his Saturday visit to Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Trichy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi heard passages from Kambar’s 12th-century epic poem “Kambaramayanam.”
Upon arriving in Tiruchirappalli, the Prime Minister visited the renowned temple and performed prayers while dressed in veshti and angavastram. After feeding an elephant in the temple grounds by the name of “Andal,” the PM also received blessings from the elephant.

After that, PM Modi heard a scholar recite passages from the “Kambaramayanam.”
The ‘Kambaramayanam’ is among the oldest renditions of the Ramayana. The poet Kambar is said to have captured the hearts of the public when he first performed his Ramayana in public at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
The ‘Kamba Ramayana Mantapam’ is a platform/Mantapa in the temple that still exists today to honor that event.
The strong bond between Tamil, Tamil Nadu, and Sri Ram was reaffirmed when PM sat in the same spot where Kamba originally sang the Tamil Ramayana.
PM Worships God Who Was Worshipped By Sri Ram Himself!
The PM’s trips to the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple in Srirangam are thought to be extremely noteworthy. There is a strong bond between Lord Ram and this temple, which is among the oldest temple complexes in the nation.
Lord Vishnu in a reclining form, Sri Ranganatha Swamy, is the deity worshipped at Srirangam. Legend has it that Lord Ram and his ancestors originally worshipped the idol at Srirangam Temple. It was bestowed upon the ancestors of Lord Rama by Brahma. In the past, they made sure to worship this idol every day while they were in Ayodhya.
Lord Ram once gave Vibhishana this idol and asked him to worship it after Vibhishana asked for a priceless gift from him. This idol was repaired in Srirangam during Vibhishana’s journey to Lanka.
A sizable gathering that had formed along the Prime Minister’s route welcomed him when he arrived in Tiruchirappalli. From his car, the prime minister acknowledged the gathering and waved to the people.
The priests of the temple greeted the Prime Minister with welcome slogans written on the road in Sanskrit announcing his arrival.
Chief Priest Sundar Bhattar of the temple expressed his happiness over the PM’s visit, saying, “All Indian devotees are extremely happy that our PM is visiting Srirangam. The arrival of the PM has also made Lord Ranganathar happy. It’s a fortunate day for Srirangam because our PM is concerned about everyone’s well-being, just like Ranganathar. This is the first time a prime minister has visited Srirangam; none has visited before. We are all quite pleased with his visit.”
The Prime Minister is scheduled to perform Darshan and Pooja at the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram.
Lord Shiva in the form of Sri Ramanathaswamy is the primary deity worshipped in this temple. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dhams, which are Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram.
