On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a tea estate in Dibrugarh, where he interacted with workers and briefly joined them in plucking tea leaves during his tour of the poll-bound state.
During the visit, the Prime Minister engaged with workers and observed their work closely, gaining first-hand insight into daily life at the tea garden. He also interacted with workers about local traditions and their role in sustaining Assam’s globally recognised tea industry.
In separate posts on X, the Prime Minister highlighted different aspects of his visit.
In one post, PM Modi reflected on the cultural and global significance of Assam’s tea.
“Tea is the soul of Assam! The tea from here has made its way across the world. This morning in Dibrugarh, I went to a tea garden and interacted with women working here. It was a very memorable experience,” he posted.

In another post, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the contribution of tea garden families.
“We are very proud of the efforts of each and every tea garden family. Their hardwork and perseverance have enhanced Assam’s pride. Here are some more glimpses from a tea garden in Dibrugarh,” the post read.

The visit comes as part of his campaign outreach ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in a single phase on 9 April, with counting of votes set for 4 May.
Earlier in the day, addressing a rally in Gogamukh, the Prime Minister highlighted the BJP-led government’s record in the state over the past decade, describing it as a period of ‘service and good governance’. He also expressed confidence in securing another term for the alliance.
“Under the leadership of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal first, and then under the guidance of Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed a new era of service and good governance in the past 10 years. These Assam elections are the election to build a developed Assam for a developed India. This time, a hat-trick for the BJP-NDA government is certain. And a hat-trick of defeat for Congress is also certain. And a century of defeat for Congress’s self-proclaimed prince is also on the cards,” PM Modi stated.
In a pointed political remark, the Prime Minister also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, suggesting the upcoming elections would extend the party’s electoral setbacks.
Assam remains one of the world’s largest tea-producing regions. It employs a vast workforce across districts such as Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Jorhat. Women form a significant share of the labour in the sector.
