PM Modi Virtually Flags Off 50 Electric Buses For Bhavnagar Under PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated a fleet of 50 electric buses for Bhavnagar under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. The move expands sustainable urban transport infrastructure.

Key Highlights of the Announcement and Visit

The buses were flagged off during his visit to Assam, where he inaugurated projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore.

Bhavnagar is the first city in Gujarat to receive buses under the initiative. While 50 buses were handed over on the day, a total of 100 vehicles are planned for the city. The air-conditioned buses are equipped with facilities for passengers with disabilities and fitted with CCTV cameras to enhance commuter safety.

Under the scheme’s implementation in Gujarat, 750 electric buses will be deployed across eight cities.

Allocations include 250 buses for Vadodara, 100 each for Rajkot and Gandhinagar, 50 each for Jamnagar and Junagadh, 80 for Gandhidham and 20 for Navsari, in addition to Bhavnagar’s share.

The Gujarat Urban Development Mission has been appointed as the state nodal agency by the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department to oversee implementation. The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen public transport and reduce carbon emissions in urban mobility.

Infrastructure and technical systems to support electric bus operations are also being advanced across the state.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister made a historic landing at the region’s first Emergency Landing Facility on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district aboard an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft.

The 4.2-kilometre reinforced stretch of National Highway-37 was inaugurated as a dual-use runway for military and civilian aircraft during emergencies.

Officials said the facility will enhance defence preparedness, logistics and disaster response capacity. The Prime Minister also witnessed an aerial display by Indian Air Force fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters.
