In a powerful Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the nation to remain resolute in its progress despite a minority of critics who, he argued, fail to recognize or appreciate India’s advancements.
“We are advancing with determination, but there are some who cannot see or acknowledge India’s progress unless it benefits them personally,” Modi stated. He cautioned against allowing these “handful of pessimistic people” to undermine the nation’s development.
India’s Development
The Prime Minister acknowledge the numerous internal and external challenges facing India, emphasizing that these issues expect to grow. Despite this, he reassured both domestic and international audiences that India’s development would not be a threat to others. “The world should not be concerned by India’s progress,” he said.

Modi highlighted the country’s ongoing reforms and the positive changes taking place, noting that 1.4 billion Indians have reason to be proud. He pointed out the increasing interest from global companies and investors, describing it as a “golden opportunity” for the country. He urged state governments to create clear policies to attract investment, ensure good governance, and foster competition among states to maximize investor interest.
Mai-Baap Culture
In his address, PM Modi criticized previous Congress governments for fostering a “mai-baap culture,” where citizens had to plead for basic amenities. He claimed that the current BJP administration has transformed this model, with the government now proactively reaching out to beneficiaries. “People no longer need to beg for services; they receive them at their doorsteps,” Modi said.
Addressing the issue of corruption, Modi reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating it. “Corruption plagued India for years, and we have waged a relentless war against it,” he asserted. Moreover, in a subtle rebuke of the opposition, he emphasized that the nation’s interests take precedence over personal attacks. “Our country has overcome an era of corruption. While there have been personalized attacks on me, my reputation is secondary to the cause of this nation,” he added.
