Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged voters in West Bengal to bring about a change in government. He accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of governing the state ‘over lies’ for the past 15 years.
Addressing his third and final campaign rally of the day in Kushmandi in South Dinajpur district, PM Modi appealed to the electorate to deny the party another term in the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections.
“You gave a chance to the previous Left Front regime for 34 years. Then you gave three consecutive chances to the Trinamool Congress government, which ruled over you for the last 15 years. They are winning consecutive elections, just making fake promises and abusing me,” he stated.
PM Modi further added, “But I want to ask you, when there was no development in the state for the last 15 years, then how could there be any future development if you give Trinamool Congress another term of five years? For the last 15 years, a ruling model of corruption and terror. So change this regime this time, which has been ruling on lies for the last 15 years. Give us a chance for five years.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi addressed rallies in Katwa in East Burdwan district and Jangipur in Murshidabad district.
Outlining his party’s agenda, PM said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power in the state, it would form a special committee comprising retired judges of the Supreme Court of India to investigate alleged corruption and misrule during the TMC’s tenure.
“The said committee will ensure justice for the victims of such misrule and corruption. Our sole aim is to bring out the people of West Bengal from this constant feeling and assure them of future development and peace,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi further said that reopening all rape and rape-and-murder cases would be a top priority.
“This is my guarantee to the women of West Bengal. Each such file will be reopened, and every culprit will be accounted for,” PM Modi added.
