Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the India Energy Week 2025 on Tuesday, highlighting India’s ambitious energy roadmap. He emphasized key milestones the country aims to achieve by 2030, positioning India as a leader in global energy transitions.
India’s 2030 Energy Goals
PM Modi shared India’s energy targets for 2030, which include producing 5 million metric tons (MMT) of green hydrogen annually. He also highlighted the ambitious goal of adding 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by the same year.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment to achieving a Net Zero carbon emission target for Indian Railways by 2030, underlining the urgency of sustainable energy solutions.
India has already emerged as the third-largest solar power generator globally. PM Modi noted that India’s non-fossil fuel energy capacity has tripled in recent years.
Furthermore, he highlighted the country’s progress in ethanol blending, with 19% ethanol blending currently achieved and a 20% mandate expected by October 2025. These strides reflect India’s commitment to advancing green energy technologies.
Biofuel Industry Growth
PM Modi also addressed the rapid growth of India’s biofuel industry, backed by a sustainable feedstock of 500 million metric tons. He pointed out that the establishment of the Global Biofuel Alliance during India’s G20 presidency continues to expand, with 28 nations and 12 international organizations participating in this transformative initiative.
India’s efforts to maximize its hydrocarbon resources are progressing, with significant discoveries and a rapidly expanding gas infrastructure. The Prime Minister noted that India is now the fourth-largest refining hub in the world, with plans to increase refining capacity by 20%.
India’s Role In Global Energy Transition
PM Modi emphasized that India’s energy transition is shaping not only the country’s future but also the global energy landscape.
He outlined five key pillars that drive India’s energy strategy: abundant resources, innovation, a strong economic foundation, strategic geographical location, and a commitment to global sustainability.
