PM Modi Unveils ₹4,900 Crore Development Projects In Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday for a two-day visit to boost infrastructure and development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening for a two-day visit focused on infrastructure and growth. His visit marks a major push to accelerate development projects in Tamil Nadu.

After concluding his Maldives tour, the Prime Minister landed at Tuticorin Airport at 7:50 PM. He flew in a special aircraft and was welcomed by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Governor RN Ravi, and Union Ministers L Murugan and Ram Mohan Naidu.

Shortly after arrival, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Tuticorin Airport. The facility, built at a cost of ₹452 crore to boost air connectivity in the region.

The Prime Minister then laid foundation stones and inaugurated various development projects in Tamil Nadu worth ₹4,900 crore. These projects cover energy, logistics, transport, and railways.

In Tuticorin alone, infrastructure works worth ₹550 crore were announced.

PM Modi also flagged off power transmission work linked to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. He inaugurated power distribution systems for Units 3 and 4 of the same plant.

He inaugurated the electrification of the Madurai–Bodinayakkanur railway line and launched the doubling of the railway lines between Aralvaimozhi–Nagercoil and Nellai–Melapalayam. The latter project costs ₹283 crore.

The Prime Minister launched a four-lane road project between Sethiyathoppu and Cholapuram. He inaugurated the third northern cargo terminal at V.O. Chidambaranar Port, built at ₹285 crore.

He also flagged off the doubling of the Nagercoil City–Junction–Kanyakumari railway line and other railway works valued at ₹1,030 crore.

This visit reflects the Centre’s strong focus on enhancing connectivity, energy infrastructure, and economic development in southern Tamil Nadu.

PM Modi will attend more events on Sunday, including the 1,000th-year celebration of the Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I’s maritime expedition at Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
