Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Malaysia on February 7-8. His itinerary focuses on reviewing bilateral relations and advancing economic, strategic, and cultural cooperation.
During the visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He will also meet Indian community leaders, as well as representatives from the business and industry sectors.
The 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum is to coincide with PM Modi’s visit. The forum will provide a platform to explore trade and investment opportunities and enhance business collaboration.
“India and Malaysia share long-standing bonds of friendship, based on historical, civilisational and cultural connections. A 2.9 million-strong Indian diaspora in Malaysia, the third largest in the world, further strengthens the relationship,” the MEA said in a statement.
“The India-Malaysia relationship is multi-faceted and growing. The forthcoming visit of Prime Minister serves as an opportunity for both leaders to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation, ranging from trade and investment, defence, security and maritime cooperation, to digital and financial technology, energy, healthcare, education, culture, tourism, people-to-people ties; as well as to set the path for future engagement for mutual benefit,” the statement added.
Leaders are likely to chart the course for future engagement for mutual benefit.
In October 2025, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Haji Hasan during the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. They discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation and developments in Myanmar.
Malaysia recently hosted the 47th ASEAN Summit under the theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.
PM Modi has participated actively in ASEAN dialogues, including the 20th East Asia Summit and the 22nd India-ASEAN Summit, highlighting India’s commitment to regional security, economic integration, and cooperation.
During these engagements, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s support for ASEAN unity, the Indo-Pacific outlook, and sustainable development initiatives. He also encouraged a review of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement to maximise trade potential and strengthen regional resilience.
The upcoming visit will likely further deepen strategic ties between India and Malaysia. It will also promote economic collaboration and reinforce the long-standing historical and cultural relationship between the two countries.
