Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir next week on a one-day tour to assess the damage caused by the recent floods and landslides.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul confirmed the visit, stating that the Prime Minister will travel to the Union Territory during the Navratra festival, which begins on September 22.

Officials are currently finalising the exact date of the visit.

Survey of Flood-Hit Areas & Relief Package Expected

Sources revealed that heavy rainfall triggered floods that severely affected both the Jammu division and the Kashmir Valley, which PM Modi will visit.

The Prime Minister is likely to announce a significant relief package for the affected population during his visit.

He also plans to meet residents impacted by the natural disasters, including those who have lost family members in cloudbursts and landslides.

A high-level Central government team will accompany the Prime Minister to conduct a detailed on-ground and aerial survey of the flood-hit regions, with special focus on the worst-affected areas of the Jammu region.

Based on this assessment, the Centre plans to unveil a substantial relief package for the Union Territory.

Jammu and Kashmir has faced a series of natural calamities over the past month, including a devastating cloudburst on August 14 in Kishtwar district that killed 67 people, mostly pilgrims of the Mata Machail Devi Yatra, and injured over 100 others.

On August 26, another landslide struck a shelter space on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, killing 32 pilgrims.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier visited Jammu to review the flood situation, while a central team has already completed a preliminary assessment of the damage.

However, PM Modi’s visit aims to provide a first-hand evaluation of the situation and expedite relief and rehabilitation measures.
