Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to embark on a significant diplomatic journey, visiting Poland and Ukraine in the coming days.
This will be the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to both countries, marking a milestone in India’s foreign relations.
Starting 21 August, PM Modi will visit Poland, the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years.
During his time in Warsaw, PM Modi will receive a ceremonial welcome and engage in high-level discussions with President Andrzej Sebastian Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
He will also meet with the Indian community residing in Poland, reflecting the strong ties between the two nations.
Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi will travel to Ukraine on 23 August, a landmark occasion as it will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.
This visit coincides with Ukraine’s National Flag Day.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Prime Minister’s agenda in Kyiv will cover a broad spectrum of bilateral relations, including political, economic, trade, educational, cultural, and humanitarian aspects.
PM Modi will also interact with the Indian diaspora and students in Ukraine.
Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) at the MEA, highlighted the significance of the visit, noting that it will strengthen the longstanding relationship between India and Ukraine and build on recent high-level interactions. He emphasized the aim of deepening cooperation across various fields and addressing mutual interests.
During his visit, PM Modi is likely to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, focusing on bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
It is anticipated that several agreements will be signed during this visit, further strengthening ties between the two countries.
PM Modi Reiterates Support For Peace In Ukraine After G7 Meeting
The visit follows a productive meeting between PM Modi and Zelensky at the 50th G7 Summit in Italy on 14 June, where PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Had a very productive meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. India is eager to further cement bilateral relations with Ukraine. Regarding the ongoing hostilities, reiterated that India believes in a human-centric approach and believes that the way to peace is through dialogue and diplomacy.”

Zelensky had previously congratulated PM Modi on his election victory and expressed hope for a visit to Ukraine.
“India’s role in global affairs is significant, and working together is crucial for achieving a just peace,” Zelensky had remarked.
India has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the conflict through diplomatic means while providing substantial humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including medicines and medical equipment.
Both visits by PM Modi underscore India’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations and fostering cooperation with key partners in Europe.
