Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a post-budget webinar on the theme ‘Agriculture and Rural Transformation’ today via video conferencing, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The webinar forms part of eight sessions covering four key sectors: agriculture, animal husbandry and dairying, fisheries, and rural livelihoods.
The webinar will emphasise high-value agriculture, aiming to unlock the potential of crops such as cashew, coconut, sandalwood, agarwood, almonds, walnuts, and pine nuts.
Discussions will also explore the opportunities offered by Bharat Vistaar, the AI-powered Digital Public Infrastructure for Agriculture, to enhance productivity, supply chain management, and market access for farmers.
The sessions will cover private sector investment and entrepreneurship in animal husbandry, development of reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars for fisheries, and strengthening coastal fisheries.
The webinar will also support rural women entrepreneurs through SHE-Marts.
The Union Budget 2026-27 focuses on high-value agriculture, allied sectors, and technology-driven farming, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocating ₹1,62,671 crore—a 7% rise from 2025-26—to boost farmer incomes, rural employment, and modernise practices.
The Budget promotes crops such as coconut, sandalwood, cocoa, and cashew in coastal areas; agar in the North East; and almonds, walnuts, and pine nuts in hilly regions.
These initiatives aim to boost farmer incomes, productivity, and entrepreneurship. Finance Minister Sitharaman noted that around 30 million people, including 10 million farmers, depend on coconuts.
The Coconut Promotion Scheme will enhance production through replanting and improved varieties. Dedicated programmes for Indian cashew and cocoa aim for self-reliance and global premium branding by 2030.
Through this webinar, PM Modi’s government seeks to modernise agriculture, strengthen rural livelihoods, and promote technology-driven growth, supporting the third Kartavya of higher farmer incomes and entrepreneurship.
