PM Modi To Lay Foundation Stone Of Major Urea Plant In Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of a major new urea production facility at the Namrup Fertiliser Plant in Naharkatia, Assam, marking a significant milestone in India’s fertiliser and agricultural infrastructure development.

The project is among the most ambitious fertiliser initiatives undertaken in the Northeast in recent decades and is expected to play a key role in strengthening the country’s agricultural supply chain.

The proposed fertiliser unit will have an estimated annual production capacity of 1.2 million metric tonnes of urea.

Once operational, the facility will ensure the timely availability of urea for farmers, particularly in eastern and northeastern India, while reducing the country’s dependence on fertiliser imports.

The project represents a transformative step towards self-reliance in fertiliser production and stronger food security.

Beyond agriculture, the new facility will significantly boost Assam’s industrial ecosystem. The state government expects to complete construction of the plant within three years from the commencement of work.

The project is likely to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities and stimulate the growth of ancillary industries in and around the Namrup industrial belt.

Preparations and Security Review

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a comprehensive review of preparations at the event venue and inspected security arrangements for the high-profile programme.

He held detailed discussions with senior officials from the Assam Police, district administration, and departments responsible for logistics, protocol and event management to ensure smooth execution of the Prime Minister’s schedule.

The Chief Minister also chaired a coordination meeting with senior state officials, including Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, emphasising the importance of seamless inter-departmental coordination.

Ministers Pijush Hazarika and Prashanta Phukan, along with Naharkatia MLA Tarang Gogoi, accompanied him during the review.

PM Modi to Address Public Gathering

As per the tentative schedule, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address a public meeting at the project site.

During his address, he is likely to underline the strategic importance of the fertiliser project and reiterate the Centre’s commitment to accelerating industrial and agricultural development in the Northeast as part of a broader growth strategy.

The Prime Minister arrived in Assam on Saturday afternoon and reached Guwahati, where he inaugurated the New Terminal Building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
