In a significant boost to India’s transportation infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate three new Vande Bharat Express trains on Saturday, marking a key milestone in the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), this move underscores India’s commitment to modernizing its rail network and enhancing regional connectivity.

New Vande Bharat Trains To Enhance Connectivity On Three Major Routes

The newly introduced Vande Bharat trains will service three key routes:

  • Meerut-Lucknow,
  • Madurai-Bengaluru, and
  • Chennai-Nagercoil

These state-of-the-art trains are likely to provide passengers with a faster and more comfortable travel experience.

On the Meerut-Lucknow route, the Vande Bharat Express promises to reduce travel time by approximately one hour compared to the fastest current service between the two cities.

Similarly, the Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil and Madurai-Bengaluru routes will benefit from time savings of over two hours and 90 minutes, respectively.

The addition of these trains is likely to set a new benchmark in rail travel, catering to diverse passenger needs across Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The PMO emphasized that these advancements will significantly enhance the travel experience for regular commuters, professionals, and students alike.

India’s indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat trains are notable for their advanced features, including faster acceleration, semi-high-speed operation up to 160 km/h, and state-of-the-art safety mechanisms such as the KAVACH anti-collision system.

The trains are also equipped with a fully-sealed gangway and automatic plug doors, ensuring a smooth and secure journey.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the broader context of this initiative, noting that Indian Railways has expanded its services by introducing 772 additional train services, including 100 Vande Bharat trains, between 2019-2020 and 2023-2024.

The total investment in Vande Bharat train manufacturing has reached Rs 1,343.72 crore.

The minister explained that the introduction of new train services is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to meet evolving passenger needs.

These services include various types of trains: express, superfast, passenger, MEMU/DEMU, and suburban tailored to different travel requirements.
