Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on Saturday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for key National Highway projects valued at approximately ₹3,200 crore at Ranaghat in Nadia district.
The projects form part of the Centre’s push to strengthen road infrastructure and regional connectivity in eastern India.
According to official information, the Prime Minister will also address a public gathering during the programme.
As part of the initiative, PM Modi will inaugurate the four-laning of a 66.7-kilometre stretch between Barajaguli and Krishnanagar on National Highway-34 in Nadia district.
In addition, he will lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the 17.6-kilometre Barasat–Barajaguli section of the same highway in the North 24 Parganas district.
Together, these projects will significantly enhance road capacity and safety along one of West Bengal’s most crucial transport corridors.
The upgraded highway stretches will act as an important link between Kolkata and Siliguri, reducing travel time by nearly two hours.
Improved road conditions will ensure smoother traffic flow, lower vehicle operating costs, better access to neighbouring districts, and stronger connectivity with nearby countries.
Officials say the projects are likely to support regional economic activity by facilitating the movement of goods and people.
The improved road network is also expected to provide a boost to tourism by making popular destinations across the state more accessible.
