PM Modi To Launch Gyan Bharatam Portal For Manuscript Digitisation Today

PM Narendra Modi will launch the Gyan Bharatam Portal on Friday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, during the inaugural session of an international conference on traditional knowledge.

The three-day event, running from 11 to 13 September, will focus on the theme, ‘Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage’.

The portal will serve as a dedicated digital platform to accelerate manuscript digitisation, ensure preservation, and expand public access, according to an official statement.

The Ministry of Culture has organised the conference to bring together scholars, conservationists, technologists, and policy experts. Participants will discuss strategies to revitalise India’s unparalleled manuscript heritage and position it within the global knowledge dialogue.

The event also features an exhibition of rare manuscripts and presentations on themes such as conservation, digitisation technologies, metadata standards, legal frameworks, cultural diplomacy, and the decipherment of ancient scripts.

Sanskrit at the Core of Knowledge Preservation

On World Sanskrit Day, observed on 9 August, PM Modi underlined the importance of Sanskrit in safeguarding India’s ancient wisdom and culture.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Today, on Shravan Poornima, we mark World Sanskrit Day. Sanskrit is a timeless source of knowledge and expression. Its impact can be found across sectors. This day is an occasion to appreciate the effort of every person around the world who is learning and popularising Sanskrit.”

He also highlighted government initiatives over the past decade, including the establishment of Central Sanskrit Universities, Sanskrit learning centres, financial grants for scholars, and the Gyan Bharatam Mission to digitise manuscripts.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath echoed similar sentiments.  He urged citizens to preserve, promote, and integrate Sanskrit into daily life.
