Newly elected Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will take the oath of office on Friday at 10:30 AM in a formal ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath, officially marking Radhakrishnan’s assumption of the second-highest constitutional office in the country.
Senior leaders from across party lines will attend the swearing-in ceremony. The organisers invited Opposition leaders, NDA members, and former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who is also expected to attend.
On Thursday, Radhakrishnan resigned as Governor of Maharashtra to take up his new constitutional role. Following his resignation, President Murmu appointed Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat to take additional charge as the Governor of Maharashtra, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement.
Immediately after the swearing-in, Vice President Radhakrishnan will hold a meeting with all floor leaders of the Rajya Sabha at 12:30 PM on Friday. Sources confirmed that officials scheduled the meeting late on Thursday evening.
Radhakrishnan, the NDA nominee, secured 452 votes in the Vice Presidential election held on Tuesday.
Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy received 300 votes. The election took place following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Radhakrishnan on his victory and expressed confidence in his leadership.
“Congratulations to Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji on winning the 2025 Vice Presidential election. His life has always been devoted to serving society and empowering the poor and marginalised. I am confident that he will be an outstanding VP, who will strengthen our Constitutional values and enhance Parliamentary discourse,” PM Modi wrote on X.
