Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Friday at 11 AM via video conferencing.
The scheme, initiated by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, seeks to empower women through self-employment and livelihood opportunities, reinforcing the vision of making women Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant).
During the launch, PM Modi will directly transfer ₹10,000 each into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar, disbursing ₹7,500 crore in the first phase.
The scheme, which provides one woman per family with financial assistance, is designed to encourage income-generating activities and strengthen household economies.
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is universal in nature and aims to support women in starting small businesses of their choice.
Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of ₹10,000. After six months, an evaluation will be conducted to assess their progress.
Based on performance, beneficiaries may become eligible for additional financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to expand their enterprises.
To ensure effective implementation, community resource persons from self-help groups will provide training to women beneficiaries in business management, financial literacy, and marketing.
The state government will also upgrade rural haat-bazaars to help women showcase and sell their products, ensuring market access and sustained income.
A Strategic Move Ahead of Elections
Leaders view the initiative as a significant step to empower women voters and boost rural livelihoods ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who leads the NDA alliance, expects the scheme to strengthen grassroots support by directly addressing the economic challenges women face, particularly in rural areas.
Officials said the programme not only enhances financial inclusion but also contributes to the broader goal of sustainable development by creating new opportunities for entrepreneurship and skill-building.
The Bihar Cabinet approved the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on 29 August 2025 during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The decision underscored the state’s commitment to empowering women through targeted financial assistance and self-employment support.
Under the scheme, one woman from each family in Bihar will be eligible for the initial financial aid of ₹10,000, helping them establish small-scale ventures suited to their skills and local demand.
Officials believe the scheme will significantly contribute to women’s economic independence and enhance rural employment.
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana will combine financial support, skill training, and market access to transform Bihar’s economy and empower millions of women across the state.
