Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open two newly completed Delhi Metro corridors and lay the foundation stone for additional projects worth more than Rs 18,300 crore on March 8. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared the details of the programme on Thursday.

These initiatives will strengthen the public transport network and expand Metro connectivity across the national capital.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate two Metro routes:

  • Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur stretch on the Pink Line, and
  • Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park section on the Magenta Line

Both corridors will improve travel between several key areas of Delhi.

The Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur segment covers a distance of 12.3 km and includes eight elevated Metro stations.

This newly built section forms part of the existing Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar Pink Line corridor. After the addition of this route, the overall length of the Pink Line will extend to nearly 71.56 km.

Officials say this expansion will establish Delhi as the first city in India with a fully functional Ring Metro network.

In addition to inaugurating new lines, the Prime Minister will also initiate the construction of three corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V (A). These projects will improve daily commuting and reduce traffic congestion in the city.

The planned routes include the Central Vista corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, the Golden Line extension connecting Aerocity with Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and another Golden Line extension between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj.

The Central Vista corridor will extend approximately 9.9 km and will be developed as an underground route. It will include multiple stations and provide Metro connectivity to major locations such as Kartavya Bhavan, Bharat Mandapam and the Yuge-Yugeen Bharat Museum.

The Aerocity to Terminal-1 extension will run underground for about 2.26 km. The Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj route will stretch 3.9 km as an elevated corridor.

The Chief Minister noted that the new corridors will also benefit residents across the National Capital Region.
