On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor. It is a major highway project aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time between the two cities.

Before the formal inauguration, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh to review a wildlife corridor built along the route. He is also scheduled to visit the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple, where he will offer prayers in the morning.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the inauguration event will take place in Dehradun around 12:30 PM, where he will also address a public gathering.

Project Scale and Cost

The corridor, stretching over 213 kilometres, has been constructed at a cost exceeding Rs 12,000 crore. It passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and is expected to cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from more than six hours to approximately two and a half hours.

The project is designed as a six-lane, access-controlled highway. It includes key infrastructure such as 10 interchanges, three railway overbridges, four major bridges and 12 wayside facilities. These features are intended to support high-speed travel.

The route is equipped with an advanced traffic management system to enhance safety and ensure smoother movement for commuters.

Special emphasis has been placed on environmental protection along the corridor, particularly in areas with dense wildlife presence.

A 12-kilometre elevated wildlife stretch, among the longest in Asia, has been constructed to allow safe animal movement. Additional measures include eight animal crossings, two large elephant underpasses of about 200 metres each, and a 370-metre tunnel near the temple site.

The project is expected to improve access to key tourism and economic hubs while supporting trade and regional development.

Officials said the corridor combines infrastructure expansion with ecological safeguards to promote sustainable growth.
