Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate five newly redeveloped railway stations under the Western Railway’s Vadodara division on May 22.
The redevelopment of Dakor, Karamsad, Derol, Kosamba, and Utran stations falls under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which aims to transform over 1,300 stations across India into modern, passenger-friendly hubs.
Launched two years ago, the ABSS focuses on enhancing commuter comfort by introducing upgraded facilities, improved accessibility, and station designs that reflect local art, heritage, and sustainability.
Station Upgrades With Local Significance
Each of the five revamped stations reflects a unique architectural and cultural identity.
Dakor Station, an important religious stop for devotees visiting the Shree Ranchhodrai Temple, now features eco-conscious infrastructure and amenities tailored to pilgrims’ needs.
Karamsad Station pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a dedicated commemorative art wall and heritage space.
Derol Station incorporates temple-style architecture that reflects the spiritual significance of the nearby Pavagadh pilgrimage centre.
Utran Station, near the rapidly growing Surat metro area, now serves daily urban commuters with a sleek and accessible modernised layout.
Kosamba Station, though smaller, now offers upgraded amenities designed for a smoother passenger experience in the region.
Vadodara’s Strategic Rail Role
The Vadodara division is a vital part of India’s western rail corridor, lying on the key New Delhi-Mumbai route.
As the headquarters of the division, Vadodara station alone handles over 150 trains daily, connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Howrah.
Equipped with multiple platforms, electrified lines, and sophisticated signalling systems, Vadodara plays a pivotal role in managing both passenger and freight traffic across Gujarat and beyond.
The division covers districts such as Anand, Bharuch, Narmada, and Surat, with a route length exceeding 4,400 km.
The region is also a critical freight hub, particularly for industries in Bharuch and Ankleshwar, which export chemicals, textiles, fertilisers, and petroleum products.
The ongoing station redevelopment projects are expected to significantly enhance the region’s logistical efficiency and passenger convenience.
With PM Modi’s inauguration, these stations will begin a new chapter of integrated, efficient, and culturally resonant public transport.
The upgrades reflect the government’s commitment to infrastructure development that honours local legacy while serving modern needs.
