PM Modi To Inaugurate Ladakh Development Projects Worth Rs 3,350 Crore Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate five major development projects worth ₹3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday, covering air connectivity, roads, renewable energy, heritage conservation and water security. He will address the gathering through video conferencing at around 12:30 PM.

The projects include a new passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, the Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, hydropower and transmission infrastructure, India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park and 40 water bodies under Project Him Sarovar.

Built at a cost of ₹640 crore, the new airport terminal spans 23,800 square metres and can handle 35 lakh passengers annually. It incorporates geothermal energy to improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint, while blending modern facilities with Ladakh’s cultural heritage.

PM Modi will dedicate the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, built by the Border Roads Organisation, to the nation.

Connecting Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through Zanskar Valley, the road provides an alternative route to Ladakh alongside the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways.

Crossing the high-altitude Shinkun La Pass, the road will strengthen military logistics and improve residents’ access to healthcare, education and markets.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 9 MW Hanu hydropower project and the 66 kV Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi transmission line to improve electricity supply and harness Ladakh’s hydropower potential. He will further inaugurate India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat in Leh to preserve prehistoric rock carvings and promote heritage tourism.

Under Project Him Sarovar, PM Modi will inaugurate 40 water bodies across 40 villages to improve irrigation, support agriculture and strengthen water security.

Together, the projects, however, aim to improve infrastructure, essential services and living conditions in the strategically important Himalayan region.
