PM Modi To Inaugurate Key Chip Manufacturing Unit In Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a major semiconductor facility in Sanand on March 31, marking a significant milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities.

Kaynes Semicon is setting up the outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) unit with an investment of ₹3,300 crore.

The government approved the project under the National Semiconductor Mission, and the facility will test and package semiconductor chips, completing a crucial stage in the manufacturing value chain.

The plant will process around 60 lakh chips per day, boosting India’s domestic production capacity.

The project follows the earlier inauguration of a semiconductor unit by Micron Technology and forms part of a growing cluster of chip-related investments in the region.

Another unit by CG Semi is also under development, signalling Sanand’s emergence as a key semiconductor hub.

The Gujarat government, led by Bhupendra Patel, has accelerated efforts to position the state as a centre for advanced manufacturing.

Officials noted that the new facility will strengthen the local ecosystem and boost economic activity linked to the sector.

Highlighting rapid progress, the Prime Minister earlier pointed to the swift development of the Micron project, completed within a short timeframe.

He emphasised that India is focusing on building a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem, spanning design, manufacturing and logistics.

He added that initiatives such as the Semicon India programme aim to create opportunities for domestic industries while integrating India into the global semiconductor value chain, making the current decade crucial for technological growth.
