Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi on Thursday, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
During the summit, the two leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and global developments, with a strong focus on security, economic growth and strategic collaboration.
Prime Minister Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit, her first to India since taking office. She will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan before holding delegation-level and bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a significant step towards further strengthening the long-standing partnership between India and Japan.
Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh welcomed the Japanese Prime Minister on her arrival.
Ahead of the summit, Japan’s Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, stressed the importance of expanding people-to-people exchanges and skill-based mobility, calling them key pillars of the bilateral relationship.
Speaking at the Human Resource Mobility Forum hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Ono Keiichi said stronger workforce collaboration would create fresh opportunities for both countries.
Before departing Tokyo, Prime Minister Takaichi said she would focus on strengthening the strategic partnership, enhancing economic security and boosting investment and innovation with India. She also announced that the Japan-India Joint Economic Forum, featuring over 150 Japanese companies and business organisations, would be held during her visit.
Reaffirming the shared commitment to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, Takaichi said the summit would advance cooperation on a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, including through the Quad, while deepening bilateral strategic and economic ties.
