PM Modi To Begin Two-Day West Bengal Visit With Focus On Development, Yoga

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-day visit to West Bengal on June 20, with a series of programmes focused on development, culture, yoga and national security.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at the Indian Air Force base in Kalaikunda on Saturday afternoon before travelling by helicopter to Tarakeswar in Hooghly district. There, he will participate in the state government’s Paschimbanga Divas celebrations and address a public gathering.

The event marks the observance of West Bengal Foundation Day on June 20, a date linked to a historic resolution moved by Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee in 1947 that paved the way for West Bengal’s integration with India.

The state government recently designated June 20 as the official Foundation Day, citing its historical significance.

During his Tarakeswar programme, PM Modi will announce and launch several development initiatives to strengthen infrastructure, agriculture and public welfare in West Bengal.

Following the event, the Prime Minister will return to Kolkata and stay overnight at Lok Bhavan.

On June 21, PM Modi will participate in International Yoga Day celebrations at Red Road in central Kolkata, where he will join a mass yoga session and address participants as part of the nationwide observance.

After the Yoga Day programme, PM Modi will travel to Garden Reach, where he will formally commission three indigenously built naval vessels, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing and maritime capabilities.

The visit combines cultural, developmental and strategic engagements, reflecting the Centre’s focus on strengthening infrastructure, promoting wellness and enhancing national security.

After completing the official engagements, the Prime Minister will proceed directly to Kolkata Airport and return to New Delhi later on Sunday.
