Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a State visit to Seychelles on Saturday after accepting an invitation from President Patrick Herminie to attend the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.

The visit highlights the importance both nations attach to their longstanding partnership and continued diplomatic engagement.

During the visit, PM Modi and President Herminie will review the progress of India-Seychelles cooperation and discuss regional and international developments of common interest.

The Prime Minister will also address the Seychelles National Assembly and meet members of the Indian diaspora residing in the country.

The Ministry of External Affairs said India and Seychelles enjoy strong historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties that have evolved into a robust strategic partnership.

The Ministry also described Seychelles as a vital maritime partner under India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and an important partner in New Delhi’s outreach to the Global South.

Officials said the visit will further strengthen the friendship between the two countries and create fresh opportunities for cooperation in diverse sectors.

Recent Bilateral Engagements

The upcoming visit follows several high-level exchanges in recent months.

In April, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Seychelles Foreign Minister Barry Faure and reaffirmed India’s readiness to support the country’s economic priorities while welcoming progress under the Special Economic Package.

Earlier, during President Herminie’s visit to India in February, both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in digital governance.

India also offered assistance in developing Seychelles’ Digital Public Infrastructure, including digital payment systems tailored to the country’s needs.

The Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL) continues to guide cooperation in areas such as maritime security, defence, sustainability, resilience, capacity building and inclusive development.

India’s High Commissioner to Seychelles, Rohit Rathish, recently said both countries intend to widen collaboration into new areas, including artificial intelligence, cyberspace, cybersecurity, marine science, conservation, and the blue economy.
