PM Modi To Address Rajya Sabha On West Asia Conflict, India’s Strategy Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, outlining India’s strategy on the ongoing West Asia conflict. His speech follows US President Donald Trump stepping back from threats to strike Iran, citing ‘very good and productive’ negotiations and a five‑day extension.

Earlier, on Monday, PM Modi spoke in the Lok Sabha about the challenges India faces due to the conflict, including the impact on Indians living in Gulf countries and broader economic and trade consequences.

“This conflict has created unforeseen challenges for India, encompassing economic, national security, and humanitarian aspects. India maintains extensive trade relations with the countries involved and those affected,” PM Modi said.

He further highlighted the strategic importance of West Asia for trade, stating, “The region where the war is taking place is also a crucial route for our trade with other countries. A significant portion of our crude oil and gas requirements comes from this region.”

PM Modi also underlined the human dimension, noting that approximately one crore Indians live and work in Gulf nations, and assured that all necessary measures have been taken to protect them.

“Since this conflict began, every Indian in the affected countries has received assistance. I have personally spoken with the heads of state of most West Asian countries in two rounds, and they have assured full safety for our citizens,” he added.

The Prime Minister said over 3,75,000 Indians, including 1,000 from Iran, have returned safely, underscoring the government’s support.

On Sunday, he chaired the Cabinet Committee on Security to review mitigation measures.
