Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hold a significant election rally in Hisar, Haryana, on Saturday, marking his third appearance in the poll-bound state.
The rally aims to drum up support for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 23 candidates across six districts, as Haryana gears up for assembly elections.
Hisar, a key location in the Bagri belt near the Rajasthan border, will host the event.
The region has long been politically influential, with several former chief ministers, including Bhajan Lal, Bansi Lal, Devi Lal, and Om Prakash Chautala, hailing from the area.
The BJP views this rally as crucial, given the presence of Independent candidates and rebels contesting against party members, making it a challenging battleground.
A notable feature of the Hisar assembly contest is the candidacy of Savitri Jindal, India’s wealthiest woman, who is running as an Independent.
Meanwhile, her presence in the race has drawn widespread attention to the district.
Besides candidates from Hisar, BJP nominees from the districts of Sirsa, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, and Jind (Narwana and Uchana seats) will also attend the rally.
Hisar, With Highest Assembly Seats In Haryana; Remains A Key Political Hub For BJP
Hisar alone has seven assembly seats, the highest for any district in Haryana, and is a vital political hub for the party.
According to a senior BJP leader, the Prime Minister’s speech will focus on addressing the internal challenges the party faces, particularly in constituencies where rebels have decided to run as Independent candidates.
This includes key seats in the Bagri belt, where the BJP has traditionally faced stiff competition.
BJP state election in-charge and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with co-in-charge Biplab Dev, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and state president Mohan Lal Badoli will also share the stage with PM Modi.
Several MPs are likely to be in attendance as well, highlighting the importance the party places on this rally.
The event will take place at a venue near Airport Chowk in Hisar, and rally convener Kuldeep Bishnoi, a former Congress leader who recently joined the BJP, confirmed that PM Modi will arrive around 3 PM.
Bishnoi expressed confidence that the Prime Minister’s visit would galvanize support for the party’s candidates.
Meanwhile, a minor controversy erupted on social media over the posters promoting PM Modi’s rally, with some accusing the BJP of omitting the photos of local MLAs.
State President Badoli dismissed the issue, attributing it to mischief-makers trying to create unnecessary tension.
He further clarified that the posters included images of MPs, not MLAs, and accused opposition forces of attempting to distract from the rally’s significance.
Haryana is set to go to the polls on 5 October, with vote counting scheduled for 8 October.
The Hisar rally is likely to be a key moment in the BJP’s election campaign, as the party looks to overcome internal divisions and retain its influence in the state.
