Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised Delhi Metro commuters on Saturday with a 20-minute ride alongside schoolchildren and passengers. He travelled on the Yellow Line towards Vishwavidyalaya around 7 PM. He then addressed Shri Ram College of Commerce students during its centenary celebrations.
PM Modi shook hands with children and spoke with women passengers. Videos showed him using a travel card before boarding.
One boy beside him whispered in his ear and then shook hands with the Prime Minister.
The interaction drew attention on social media.
This was not Prime Minister Modi’s first Metro journey. He travelled by Metro to Delhi University in 2023 for its centenary celebrations.
In 2015, PM Modi used the Delhi Metro while inaugurating the Faridabad extension line. In February 2026, he travelled on the Meerut Metro and alighted at Meerut South Station.
At SRCC, Prime Minister Modi discussed India’s economic progress, rising defence exports and the end of Naxalism. He highlighted the new Parliament Building and India’s fight against Covid-19. He said he sets ambitious national targets and works hard to fulfil them.
Addressing a regressive mindset, PM Modi again used the phrase ‘Dimagi Naxal’. He further said citizens were witnessing the true colours of people with an anarchist mentality.
The Prime Minister honoured SRCC’s legacy. He named notable alumni and said, “I am the sixth player. Today’s occasion is historic. It is significant for the country’s education sector. Many generations who have been part of SRCC are connected here.”
PM Modi paid tribute to the founder, Sir Shri Ram, saying, “I thank the college’s founder, Sir Shri Ram ji. When a person lives for 100 years, their experiences are considered to be a sea of riches. And when an institution does so, it becomes an ocean of achievements.”
