Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic discussion with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday about the devastating fire that occurred at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of ten patients and left several others with injuries.

Chief Minister Majhi later shared information about the conversation through a post on his official X account.

“Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji spoke with me over the telephone regarding the tragic incident that occurred at SCB Medical College in Cuttack and held a detailed discussion,” he posted.

The post further read, “I have informed him about the emergency measures being taken for all those affected, the evacuation process, and the specialised medical services being provided to them. I have also provided information about the high-level inter-departmental inquiry directed by the state government.”

Earlier on Monday, the Chief Minister visited SCB Medical College and Hospital in person to examine the situation. During the visit, he instructed officials to provide all possible support to the injured patients and the families of those who lost their lives.

Majhi emphasised that different departments and emergency teams must work together to ensure that relief operations continue effectively.

Expressing grief over the tragic loss of lives, Prime Minister Modi announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the families of each deceased patient from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Chief Minister Majhi separately declared compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for the families of the victims.

Preliminary information suggests that the fire started between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM.

Reports indicate that a suspected electrical short circuit may have triggered the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation while relief efforts remain ongoing.
