PM Modi Speaks To Vijay After He Takes Oath As Tamil Nadu Chief Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C Joseph Vijay, after he officially assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and conveyed his greetings for the beginning of his tenure.

Sources familiar with the conversation said the Prime Minister contacted Vijay during the evening while travelling across three states as part of his official engagements.

During the call, PM Modi wished the newly elected Chief Minister success in his new responsibilities.

C Joseph Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu earlier in the day at a large-scale ceremony organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

The development marked a major transformation in Tamil Nadu politics. It ended the long-standing pattern of alternating governments led by the DMK and the AIADMK for nearly six decades.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay during the ceremony. Nine ministers also joined the new administration after taking the oath alongside him.

The 51-year-old Vijay formally entered politics only last year after launching the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party. Within a short period, he secured a commanding mandate in the Assembly elections and rose to power for the first time.

Political analysts described his victory as one of the most significant shifts in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape in recent years. The result gained attention because established regional parties have traditionally dominated the state’s politics.

Before the telephone conversation, PM Modi had also shared a congratulatory message for Vijay through the social media platform X.

The Prime Minister assured that the Central government would continue working with the Tamil Nadu administration. He said the Centre would support the welfare and progress of the state’s people.

The exchange between PM Modi and Vijay has drawn attention. It comes as the newly formed Tamil Nadu government begins its tenure under fresh political leadership.
