Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, criticized the Opposition for politicising the Manipur issue, asserting that the state “will soon reject them.”
Calling for unity beyond political lines, PM Modi emphasized the importance of ensuring stability in the region.
He cautioned against exacerbating the situation, stating, “Those adding fuel to the fire, I warn them Manipur will reject them soon.”
Highlighting progress in maintaining peace, PM Modi noted a significant decrease in violent incidents in Manipur over recent months.
“We are continuously striving to uphold peace and stability in Manipur,” he affirmed. “More than 11,000 FIRs filed, with over 500 arrests in Manipur, a relatively small state. The decline in violence indicates that peace is achievable.”
PM Modi underscored that normalcy prevails in Manipur with schools, colleges, and offices operating as in any other state, with all examinations conducted as scheduled.
“Both the Central and state governments are actively addressing regional issues with patience and tranquility,” PM Modi remarked.
He highlighted Home Minister Amit Shah’s extended stay in Manipur, engaging extensively with stakeholders, alongside visits from various government officials.
Reflecting on Manipur’s history, PM Modi acknowledged historical disharmony and cited incidents, including a notable event in 1993.
He reminded the Congress party of the President’s Rule being imposed ten times during their tenure, noting a period of prolonged violence in the state during that era.
Responding to critics, PM Modi asserted the BJP’s commitment to transforming the Northeast into a robust economic hub.
“Efforts to foster peace in the Northeast have yielded promising outcomes,” he remarked.
PM further stated, “Historical interstate tensions, persisting since Independence, are being mitigated through successful agreements.”
