Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a fiery speech in the Lok Sabha, responding to the debate on Operation Sindoor.
He accused Congress of compromising India’s fight against terrorism for decades due to its ‘appeasement politics’ and vote-bank considerations.
PM Modi said that before 2014, India lived under constant fear of terror strikes, with the government issuing alerts instead of ensuring security.
“People were told to stay alert because bombs could go off anywhere. That was the reality under Congress rule,” he stated.
Why Didn’t Congress Act?
PM Modi highlighted the contrast between the BJP’s strong counter-terrorism measures and Congress’s alleged inaction.
“Today, the nation is asking: if we can strike terror so decisively, why didn’t Congress governments do it? What stopped them?” he questioned.
The Prime Minister accused the party of soft-pedalling terrorism to safeguard its vote banks and offered several examples:
- Batla House Encounter: PM Modi said a senior Congress leader wept when terrorists were neutralised, calling it ‘appeasement in its most shameful form’.
- Parliament Attack (2001): He recalled how a Congress leader advocated leniency towards terrorist Afzal Guru.
- 26/11 Mumbai Attacks: PM Modi accused Congress of pushing the “saffron terror” narrative despite global proof of Pakistan’s role.
PM Modi criticised Congress for blocking constitutional integration in Jammu & Kashmir.
“Why wasn’t Article 370 removed earlier? Because Congress didn’t want to disturb its appeasement politics. Dr Ambedkar’s Constitution was kept out of Kashmir because of them,” he said.
PM Modi also cited a reported incident where a Congress leader allegedly told a US diplomat that Hindu organisations were more dangerous than Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“Imagine equating patriots with terrorists for political gain,” PM Modi remarked.
Amidst protests from Opposition benches, PM Modi ended with a strong message: “The country has changed. The politics of fear and appeasement is over. India will never turn a blind eye to terror again.”
This speech reinforced the BJP’s national security stance while positioning Congress as weak on terrorism. It underscored Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s counter-terrorism narrative.
