Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a fiery rebuttal during his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Opposition.
He accused them of repeatedly undermining democracy during their tenure and now hypocritically lecturing the NDA government on threats to the Constitution.
PM Modi highlighted several instances from the UPA I and UPA II regimes, asserting that the Congress party itself poses the greatest threat to the Constitution.
He criticized their recent claims that the Constitution is under threat under the current government.
PM Modi drew attention to historical incidents, questioning, “Who authorized the National Advisory Council to supersede the Prime Minister’s authority? Who permitted the disparagement of the Prime Minister’s office?”
He referred to controversial episodes, including an instance where a Congress MP tore apart a Cabinet note in front of the press.
The Prime Minister also condemned the Congress party for events such as the Emergency and Turkman Gate incidents, where, he alleged, democracy suffered severe setbacks.
PM Modi recalled the Emergency era as a time when democratic principles were trampling upon, ordinary citizens were persecuting, and many were unjustly incarcerating and mistreating.
PM Modi criticized the Congress’s present stance, accusing them of attempting to conceal their historical misdeeds by brandishing the Constitution.
He reiterated his earlier criticism of the Congress as a party without independent stature, heavily reliant on alliances and resorting to falsehoods to sway public opinion.
PM Modi’s address underscored a sharp escalation in the ongoing political rhetoric, focusing on contrasting interpretations of democratic values and the legacy of governance in India.
