On Friday, PM Narendra Modi marked Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas with a meaningful interaction, stopping to take a selfie with Dharmadurai and Ezhilarasi, a tribal couple from Tamil Nadu’s Irula community, at an exhibition showcasing tribal artisanship in Jamui, Bihar.

The couple, hailing from Ariyalur district, had set up a stall with other tribal participants, proudly representing their community’s rich cultural heritage.

The moment, capturing the Prime Minister’s approachable demeanor, was however one of many highlights of the day as Jamui hosted vibrant celebrations honoring the contributions of tribal communities.

Paying Homage To Birsa Munda

PM Modi’s visit to Jamui was centered on paying homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the revered tribal freedom fighter, whose 150th birth anniversary commenced on the occasion.

Donning a white kurta and churidar paired with an olive-green ethnic jacket, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome featuring a spirited tribal dance performance that celebrated the rich traditions of the local culture.

As a mark of respect, the Prime Minister laid floral tributes and bowed before a statue of Birsa Munda, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to India’s freedom struggle and the empowerment of tribal communities.

Launch Of Development Projects

During the event, PM Modi unveiled a series of development initiatives worth Rs 6,640 crore aimed at advancing tribal welfare. These projects will likely boost infrastructure, enhance skill development, and create job opportunities for tribal youth.

Speaking about the government’s efforts, PM Modi emphasized that these measures align with his vision for inclusive growth and are geared toward improving the quality of life in over 60,000 tribal villages.

Commemorative Tributes

The day also saw the release of a commemorative coin and postage stamp in honor of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. These symbols of recognition unveiled as part of the celebrations, reflecting the nation’s respect and gratitude for the tribal leader’s enduring legacy.

Cultural Engagement

In a lively interaction with performers, PM Modi joined the traditional tribal dancers, blending seamlessly into the festive atmosphere. He also tried his hand at playing the dhol, earning cheers from the audience and reinforcing his connection with the tribal communities.

Highlighting New Initiatives

Addressing the gathered crowd, PM Modi spotlighted the Dharti Aaba, Janjatiya Gram, and Utkarsh Abhiyan schemes, which aim to transform tribal areas into thriving hubs of opportunity.

He further stressed that these initiatives are a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting tribal communities and ensuring their holistic development.
