Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a three-nation diplomatic tour on Monday, travelling to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman in a bid to deepen India’s political, economic and strategic engagement across West Asia and Africa.
The Prime Minister’s first stop will be Jordan, undertaken at the invitation of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein.
During the two-day visit, both leaders will review the full spectrum of India–Jordan relations. They will also exchange views on key regional developments.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. It offers a platform to reinforce bilateral cooperation and explore new opportunities for shared growth. The visit also reiterates a joint commitment to regional peace and stability.
From Jordan, PM Modi will travel to Ethiopia on December 16 for a State Visit, marking his first visit to the African nation.
At the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, discussions will take place. They will focus on strengthening bilateral ties across political, economic, and developmental sectors.
The MEA noted that as partners in the Global South, India and Ethiopia share a common vision of advancing close friendship and cooperation. The visit underscored their commitment to mutual progress. It highlighted the importance both countries place on strengthening their bilateral ties.
The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to Oman from December 17 to 18, at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
India and Oman enjoy a comprehensive Strategic Partnership rooted in historic trade links and strong people-to-people ties.
The visit, which marks 70 years of diplomatic relations, follows the Sultan’s State Visit to India in December 2023.
Both sides will extensively review cooperation across trade, investment, energy, defence, security, technology, agriculture and culture, and will also discuss regional and global issues.
This will be PM Modi’s second visit to Oman, reflecting the growing momentum in bilateral relations.
