Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired a meeting today at his residence to assess the preparedness for Cyclone Remal over the North Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD forecasts, Cyclone Remal is expected to cross the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal, between Sagar Islands and Khepupara, near the southwest of Mongla (Bangladesh), by midnight. The cyclone is likely to bring significant rainfall to West Bengal and the Northeastern states.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed that the National Crisis Management Committee is in constant communication with the Government of West Bengal. Advisories have been issued for all fishermen to avoid the South Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Approximately one lakh people are being relocated to safer areas. The IMD is also providing regular updates to Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the Government of India’s full support to the State Government and insisted on continued assistance. He directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to monitor the situation closely and conduct a review post-landfall to provide necessary restoration support. Besides the 12 NDRF teams already deployed in West Bengal and one in Odisha, additional teams are to be on standby, ready to mobilize within an hour. The Indian Coast Guard has been instructed to deploy its assets for any emergencies. Ports, railways, and highways are to be maintained on high alert to prevent any incidents.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet Secretary, the Home Secretary, the DG of NDRF, the DG of IMD, and the Member Secretary of NDMA.
