PM Modi chaired the 47th PMML Society meeting at Teen Murti Bhawan, outlining a visionary plan to transform India’s museum landscape.
During the meeting, PM Modi emphasised the cultural importance of museums and their role in helping people experience history.
He introduced the idea of a unified ‘Museum Map of India’, aimed at creating an integrated cultural and informational network of all museums across the country.
Underscoring the role of digital innovation, the Prime Minister called for the creation of a comprehensive national database of museums.
This database would include crucial metrics such as visitor footfall and quality benchmarks. He also stressed the importance of using advanced technologies to elevate public interest and the overall stature of museums in society.
PM Modi proposed the organisation of regular workshops for museum professionals to promote knowledge-sharing and capacity-building. He said such initiatives would help improve management standards and ensure museums remain vibrant and engaging spaces.
To infuse fresh thinking into the museum ecosystem, the Prime Minister suggested forming youth committees in every state. Each committee would consist of five members under the age of 35 and contribute innovative ideas for enhancing museums.
Highlighting recent developments, PM Modi said that with the establishment of the Museum of All Prime Ministers, the legacy of every Indian Prime Minister, especially India’s first, Jawaharlal Nehru, has finally received its due recognition, something that had not happened before 2014.
To boost outreach and awareness, the Prime Minister recommended that top social media influencers and foreign embassy officials be invited to visit museums.
This, he said, would help promote India’s rich heritage on global platforms.
PM Modi called for preserving all legal records of the Emergency ahead of its 50th anniversary. He emphasised the importance of systematic documentation for future researchers and historians.
In a symbolic gesture, the Prime Minister planted a Kapur (Cinnamomum camphora) tree in the Teen Murti House lawns, reflecting a commitment to growth, heritage, and sustainability.
Members of the PMML Society also shared valuable suggestions to further enhance the functioning of the Museum and Library.
PM Modi concluded the session by reiterating the importance of preserving the present for future generations through structured recordkeeping and continuous innovation.
