PM Modi Pays Tributes To Bhagat Singh & Lata Mangeshkar On Their Birth Anniversary

During the 126th episode of his monthly radio programme, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi remembered Bhagat Singh as a ‘source of inspiration’ for every Indian, especially the youth.

He praised Bhagat Singh’s courage and fearlessness.

“Before he was hanged for the nation, Bhagat Singh wrote to the Britishers, requesting that he and his friends be treated as prisoners of war and executed by shooting rather than hanging. This demonstrates his indomitable courage,” PM Modi said.

He also highlighted Bhagat Singh’s compassion for people’s sufferings and his willingness to act for their welfare. “I respectfully pay tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh,” he added.

Mann Ki Baat: Remembering Lata Mangeshkar

PM Modi also paid homage to Lata Mangeshkar, praising her profound connection to Indian culture and music. Her songs, he said, move people’s hearts and inspire patriotism.

“Anyone interested in Indian culture and music cannot help but be overwhelmed by her songs. Her patriotic songs inspired countless people. I offer my heartfelt tribute to Lata Didi,” he said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that Lata Mangeshkar considered Veer Savarkar as her inspiration, calling him ‘Tatya’, and lent her melodious voice to many of his compositions.

PM Modi shared personal anecdotes, noting his close bond with Lata Didi. “The bond of affection I shared with Lata Didi always remained intact. She used to send me Rakhi every year, without fail,” he said.

He also recalled being introduced to her music by Marathi Sugam Sangeet legend Sudhir Phadke and his fondness for the song ‘Joyoti Kalash Chhalke’, sung by Lata Didi.

Through this episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi underscored the lasting influence of Bhagat Singh’s courage and Lata Mangeshkar’s cultural contributions.

Their legacy continues to inspire patriotism, courage, and love for Indian heritage across generations.

The programme highlighted the importance of remembering India’s heroes and cultural icons, ensuring that their values remain a guiding light for the nation.
