PM Narendra Modi paid homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) on the solemn occasion of Ashura, acknowledging his sacrifices as a symbol of unwavering commitment to truth and righteousness.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, PM Modi wrote, “The sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) emphasise his commitment to righteousness. He inspires people to uphold truth in the face of adversity.”
PM Modi is currently in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, participating in the 17th BRICS Summit and undertaking a state visit.
Muslims across India and the globe are observing Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
Imam Hussain and his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD while standing against tyranny and injustice.
In Kashmir, the Shia community held processions on traditional routes to mark the eighth and tenth days of mourning.
Devotees commemorated the sacrifices of Imam Hussain, who, along with his family, including his six-month-old son Ali Asghar, was denied water and ultimately martyred on the banks of the Euphrates River in Karbala, Iraq.
The martyrdom of Imam Hussain resonates across both Shia and Sunni communities, who mourn the tragedy of Karbala with deep reverence.
Ashura serves as a day of reflection on values such as courage, sacrifice, and resistance to oppression.
While Shia Muslims often express their grief through chest-beating and processions, the broader Muslim community considers Muharram and Ashura deeply sacred, honouring the moral and spiritual lessons Imam Hussain left behind.
