PM Narendra Modi received a heartfelt welcome from the Indian community in Brazil as he arrived for a four-day visit to attend the 17th BRICS Summit and undertake a bilateral state visit.
The highlight of the welcome ceremony was a special cultural performance inspired by ‘Operation Sindoor’, paying tribute to India’s armed forces.
Indian diaspora members staged a semi-classical dance performance and displayed themed artwork that depicted the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during Operation Sindoor, India’s recent anti-terror operation targeting Pakistan-based militants.
In front of PM Modi, performers combined traditional Indian art forms and patriotic themes to highlight national pride.
“We chose Operation Sindoor to honour our brave soldiers and Bharat Mata,” said one of the performers. “PM Modi watched patiently, interacted with us, and appreciated our effort. For us, he feels like an elder brother.”
The Prime Minister interacted with the dancers and expressed his appreciation for the community’s warm welcome and moving tribute.
Speaking to IANS, PM Modi said he was moved by the display of patriotism and artistic expression. He also engaged with members of the diaspora, thanking them for keeping Indian culture alive abroad.
Brazilian citizens also expressed enthusiasm about the Indian leader’s arrival. “I’m thrilled that PM Modi is visiting. It’s a great honour for Brazil,” said a local resident in Rio. “This feels like a dream come true,” added another. “We’re lucky to meet him. There are no words for our pride.”
PM Modi will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7, before heading to Brasília for a historic state visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly 60 years.
He will meet Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and hold multiple bilateral meetings with global leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
