Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences after the passing of Chennamma, the wife of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. He praised her simple lifestyle and lifelong dedication to serving society while extending his sympathies to the grieving family.
In his condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled Chennamma’s humility and her commitment to public welfare. He said she earned widespread respect for her selfless nature and conveyed his prayers for the bereaved family.
PM Modi later spoke with HD Deve Gowda over the phone. During the conversation, he personally expressed his sorrow and wished the family strength and courage in this difficult period.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also expressed sadness over Chennamma’s death. He described her as a devoted homemaker whose simplicity and values made her an inspiring personality.
BJP Karnataka in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal said Chennamma’s life reflected sacrifice, dignity, and unwavering support for her family. He added that her legacy would continue to be remembered with respect.
BJP State Co-in-charge Sudhakar Reddy said Chennamma remained a constant source of encouragement for HD Deve Gowda throughout his public life. He noted that her grace, strength, and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Chennamma passed away on Saturday at the age of 85. Leaders from different political parties paid homage to her and remembered her for her humility, compassion, and steadfast support for the Deve Gowda family.
