PM Modi Participates In Somnath Amrut Mahotsav Marking Temple’s 75th Year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday participated in the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, marking 75 years since the inauguration of the reconstructed Somnath Temple, one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The celebrations commemorated the restoration of the historic temple and its inauguration by India’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, in 1951 after Independence.

Thousands of devotees, BJP supporters and visitors gathered in Somnath to witness the special ceremonies and welcome the Prime Minister.

Ahead of the temple rituals, PM Modi held a roadshow in Somnath after arriving from Jamnagar, where he had stayed overnight during his Gujarat visit.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi joined the roadshow as crowds lined the nearly 1.5-kilometre route from the helipad to Veer Hamirji Circle near the temple.

People waved national and BJP flags, chanted slogans and greeted the Prime Minister enthusiastically as his convoy passed through the city.

Artists from several states, including West Bengal, presented traditional dance and cultural performances during the procession.

At the Somnath Temple complex, PM Modi participated in special religious ceremonies organised as part of the Amrut Mahotsav celebrations.

Priests conducted the Kumbhabhishek ceremony using holy water collected from 11 sacred pilgrimage sites across India.

PM Modi performed jal abhishek, dhwaj puja and maha puja at the Somnath Temple, while organisers showered flower petals over the shrine during the ceremonies.

Authorities decorated the temple complex and tightened security arrangements as thousands gathered to celebrate 75 years of the reconstructed Somnath Temple, regarded as a symbol of faith and cultural heritage.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering at Sadbhavana Ground in Somnath.
