PM Narendra Modi met young cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his parents at Patna airport on Friday during his two-day visit to Bihar.
The PM interacted warmly with the teenager and his family before departing from the venue.
Sharing glimpses of the meeting on his X account, PM Modi wrote, “At Patna airport, met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing skills are being admired all over the nation! My best wishes to him for his future endeavours.”
He emphasised the importance of experience, saying, “Whoever plays more, will shine more.”
Vaibhav, just 14 years old, gained national attention as the youngest centurion in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 1.1 crore in last year’s auction.
In seven IPL matches, the teenager has scored 252 runs, including a century and a half-century.
He made headlines by scoring a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, the fastest by an Indian in IPL history, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s previous record of 37 balls.
Vaibhav debuted in first-class cricket for Bihar at only 12 years and 284 days, scoring 71 off 42 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming the youngest Indian to score a List-A fifty.
On the international front, he recorded the fastest youth Test century by an Indian, scoring a 58-ball ton against Australia in Chennai.
He also played a key role in India’s journey to the ACC U19 Asia Cup final with two important half-centuries.
During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Patna Airport on Thursday.
On Friday, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for infrastructure and welfare projects worth nearly Rs 48,500 crore across Bihar, signalling a push for development alongside his engagement with local talent like Suryavanshi.
