Earlier on Tuesday, Canadian High Commissioner to India Christopher Cooter described the chemistry between PM Modi and Carney as ‘excellent’. He said the two countries had never enjoyed such strong relations as they do now.
Cooter discussed Anand’s India visit and her meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Cooter said the two Prime Ministers had met four times in just over a year. He added that senior officials continued regular consultations, with Canada’s National Security Adviser recently visiting India.
Anand’s upcoming trip will mark her 10th meeting with Jaishankar in a year, he said.
Canada’s Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu will visit India next week with a delegation of 300 business representatives.
Cooter described it as potentially Canada’s largest trade delegation to India, with visits planned across several southern cities over a week.
The two countries hold dialogues on energy, migration and defence.
Cooter said Canada expects a defence-related visit soon. He added that at least six Canadian Ministers had visited India over the past year.
Carney visited India in March, while Prime Minister Modi is expected to travel to Canada in early December.
Cooter said both sides hope to sign their first Free Trade Agreement during Prime Minister Modi’s visit, following negotiations that began in March this year.
