Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday congratulated India’s weightlifters for their medal-winning performances at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, praising the athletes’ determination and contribution to the country’s growing medal tally.
Prime Minister Modi lauded Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam after she secured the bronze medal in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event.
In a post on X, PM Modi described her achievement as another proud moment for India, praised her hard work and determination, and wished her continued success in future competitions.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated Valluri Ajaya Babu after his silver-medal finish in the men’s 79kg category.
In a post on X, Mandaviya hailed the Khelo India athlete’s remarkable performance, highlighted his Commonwealth Games snatch record, and described the medal-winning effort as another proud achievement for the nation.

Bindyarani lifted a combined 199kg, including 87kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk.
The Manipur athlete added another Commonwealth Games medal to her name after winning silver in the 55kg category at the Birmingham Games in 2022.
Ajaya Babu lifted a total of 330kg, including a Commonwealth Games-record 149kg in the snatch and 181kg in the clean and jerk. He narrowly missed the gold medal by just one kilogram, finishing behind Malaysia’s Muhammad Erry Hidayat.
Gyaneshwari Yadav added another silver to India’s medal tally in the women’s 53kg event on her Commonwealth Games debut with a personal-best total lift of 199kg.
Earlier, Mirabai Chanu won gold in the women’s 49kg category, while Rishikanta Singh and Muthupandi Raja secured silver medals in the men’s 60kg and 65kg events, respectively.
