Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar, on his death anniversary, reaffirming that the revolutionary leader’s personality and deeds continue to inspire every generation in the service of the nation.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On the anniversary of his passing, heartfelt salutations to the great revolutionary hero Veer Savarkar ji. He dedicated his entire life to freeing the nation from the shackles of slavery. His personality and deeds will continue to inspire every generation toward national service.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah honoured Savarkar as ‘Swatantryaveer,’ noting, “The saga of sacrifice, dedication, and valour of Veer Savarkar, who devoted his entire life to the eradication of untouchability and women’s education, will forever serve as a beacon of ‘Nation First’ ideals for every patriot.”
Shah also added that Savarkar’s revolutionary campaigns and ideological contributions inspired youth across generations to embrace national service.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda described Savarkar as a ‘great freedom fighter’ whose devotion to Mother Bharat remained unshaken despite harsh British imprisonment. He praised Savarkar’s vision of Hindu cultural inviolability and an Akhand (undivided) Bharat as a model worthy of emulation.

Revolutionary, Thinker and Social Reformer
Veer Savarkar, who authored Hindutva in 1923, was a key ideologue of Hindu nationalism and played an active role in revolutionary activities against British colonial rule. He endured 27 years of imprisonment in the Cellular Jail for his involvement in the freedom movement.
Beyond his revolutionary exploits, Savarkar also focused on social reform, working for women’s education and the eradication of untouchability, leaving a legacy that spans both political and cultural spheres.
The commemorations, however, reinforce Savarkar’s enduring place in India’s national consciousness.
His writings, revolutionary actions, and social reforms collectively continue to inspire patriotic service, civic responsibility, and cultural pride.
