Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 75th death anniversary, describing his contribution to the nation as ‘unparalleled’ and unforgettable.
Remembering Patel’s lifelong dedication to national unity, the Prime Minister said that a grateful nation can never forget his role in binding India into a single, strong thread.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi said, “My respectful salutations to the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his 75th death anniversary. He dedicated his life to weaving the country into a single thread. The grateful nation can never forget his unparalleled contribution to the creation of an undivided and strong Bharatvarsha.”

Architect of India’s Unity
Born on October 31, 1875, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is revered as the ‘Iron Man of India’ for his decisive leadership in uniting more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union after Independence.
As the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Patel played a pivotal role in shaping India’s political integration and ensuring internal stability during a critical phase of nation-building.
His firm resolve, administrative acumen, and ability to take tough decisions helped prevent fragmentation and laid the foundation for a unified India.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid glowing tributes to Sardar Patel, calling him a key leader of the freedom struggle alongside Mahatma Gandhi.
Shah highlighted Patel’s strong will and exceptional administrative skills, which earned him the respect of being regarded as a founding father of modern India.
“Sardar Sahab unified a fragmented, independent India into a strong nation despite numerous adverse circumstances. As the country’s first Home Minister, he made the protection of Mother India, internal stability, and the establishment of peace the goal of his life,” Shah said in a post on X.

He further noted that Patel’s efforts in reviving the cooperative movement and empowering farmers and women laid the groundwork for a self-reliant India, adding that his ideals would continue to guide the nation on the path of ‘Nation First’.
Role in Administration and Freedom Struggle
As the first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was instrumental in establishing the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), creating a robust civil services framework that continues to support governance and national unity.
A close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, Patel led major movements such as the Kheda Satyagraha and the Quit India Movement, inspiring masses through his leadership and powerful oratory.
As India marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, the Centre has announced year-long celebrations across the country.
These include cultural programmes, unity runs, and various tributes to honour the enduring legacy of the Iron Man of India and reinforce the message of national unity.
