Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually laid the foundation stone for the Rs 13,037-crore Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project while inaugurating the Rajasthan Refinery at Pachpadra in Balotra district.
Later, PM Modi inaugurated the country’s third semiconductor plant at Sanand, Gujarat, describing both projects as milestones in India’s development journey.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said Rajasthan remains central to the nation’s growth. He said the Metro project and the new Jodhpur Airport terminal would strengthen the state’s modern infrastructure.
The Prime Minister added that Jaipur’s Metro network will exceed 50 km after Phase-2, improving daily commuting and enhancing travel for tourists.
The 41-km corridor will connect Prahladpura, Todi Mod and major Jaipur landmarks through 36 stations.
The project, implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, will integrate metro services with airports, railways and bus terminals.
Feeder buses will also connect nearby towns.
Daily ridership is expected to rise from 50,000 to nearly 2.5 lakh, before crossing four lakh in the coming years.
In Gujarat, PM Modi inaugurated the CG Semi OSAT facility and said Sanand will soon produce 1.5 crore semiconductor chips daily.
The plant has started commercial packaging and testing of semiconductor wafers and will initially manufacture 20 crore chips annually, with plans to expand production to 500 crore chips every year.
The Prime Minister said the project reflects the dedication of India’s youth and strengthens the country’s semiconductor ecosystem. He noted that India has become the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, while electronics production has grown significantly since 2014.
PM Modi said the country is developing the complete semiconductor value chain through design, manufacturing, packaging and testing under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. He added that four semiconductor facilities will begin operations in 2026, further positioning India as a global semiconductor hub.
